  • Gavin Smith

    Director

    Gavin has been the sole Director and owner of Smith Shearer since 1996. The company has grown in leaps and bounds since, building a trusted and well known name in the Esperance region.
     
    Gavin has a Bachelor of Business (Accounting), is a Certified Practicing Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor.
     
    He has a wide variety of knowledge across all accounting fields; bringing a unique local perspective which is important to the different clientele he assists on a daily basis. Gavin prides himself on clear, concise and efficient communication, as well as providing guidance and leadership to the Smith Shearer team. He has built a team that is known for their unique balance between Small Firm Personality and Big Firm Capabilities.
     
    Gavin is has two beautiful children, Kate and Toby. He enjoys a surf in the morning if he can squeeze it in, and enjoys the lifestyle that living in Esperance brings.    He believes in putting back into the community which is reflected in his current board and treasurer role with Our Lady Star of the Sea Primary School and his past roles as treasurer and committee member with the Port’s Football Club.
     
    Gavin’s passion is to ensure clients attain success in their business. As a small business owner himself, he understands the commitment required to succeed in business.

  • Melissa McKenzie

    Client Manager

    Mel joined the Smith Shearer team in June 2007 with 17 years accounting experience under her belt. Mel holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) and is a Chartered Accountant.

    A mum to two active boys, Mel carefully balances her work and home commitments with a Part Time role, although with 100% dedication to her job and her clients.

    With a strong farming background, Mel knows how farming operations work and this is one of her key strengths. She prides herself on her ability to empathise with clients and offers unique solutions to the most complex of accounting problems.

     


  • Cheryl Murdock

    Client Manager

    Cheryl started with Smith Shearer as Receptionist in 1997. Inspired by the dedication of those around her, she embarked on achieving her Bachelor of Business degree and moved into the Accounting side of the firm, graduating in December 2010. With guidance and leadership from Gavin and the other senior Accountants, Cheryl has become a highly competent consultant with a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience.

    Cheryl is a born and bred Ravensthorpe girl and with partner Jimmy, has two boys Zac and Tyler who certainly keep her on her toes. Maintaining a work-life balance is important to Cheryl and she appreciates the opportunity to work part time with the Smith Shearer team.

    Tania Wright

    Client Manager

    Tania joined the Smith Shearer team in 2003 initially in an administrative capacity whilst studying to become an accountant herself. Today she has a Bachelor of Business (Accounting and Finance) and is a SPAA SMSF Specialist Advisor. She is highly skilled, with extensive experience counting for and advising Smith Shearer’s Self-Managed Superannuation Fund clients.

    Tania grew up on a farm in the Ravenshorpe area with her family still farming there. Her local knowledge and agricultural experience means she empathises with a lot of her clients and their situations, providing down-to-earth, honest advice.

    With the arrival of her second child Tania works part time, enjoying the flexibility of her role and the supportive environment at the Smith Shearer office.

    Greg Olsen

    Accountant

    Greg leaped at the opportunity to move to Esperance and undertake an Accounting position with Smith Shearer in mid-2017.

    Having completed a Bachelor of Business in Accounting and Information Systems in 2006, Greg has been working in public practice accounting since. He is a member of the Tax Institute.

    As a proud recipient of a Telstra Small Business Award, Greg has owned and operated two small businesses, as well as having eight years experience in Sales and Management. Another notch to his belt - Greg is also a qualified chef.

    In his spare time, Greg enjoys fishing, scuba diving, sailing and camping. He is also a mad Fremantle Dockers supporter.

    Kristy Keevil

    Assistant Accountant

    Kristy joined the Smith Shearer team in 201, having moaved back to her hometown of Esperance after spending seven years working in both accounting and commerce roles in Perth. With a bachelor of Commerce from Curtin University, Kristy is currently undertaking her Diploma of Chartered Accounting, (CA).

    An avid beach-lover, Kristy makes the most of her time away from the office by hitting the outdoors: surfing, paddle boarding and camping. Her words to live by are: "Even after all this time, the sun never says to the earth, "you owe me." Look what happens with a love like that. It lights the whole sky."


  • Danae Hardwick

    Office Manager

    Danae joined Smith Shearer in 2010 as a Receptionist and has since accepted the opportunity to become the Office Manager. With her experience in administrative and supervisory roles Danae also brings professionalism, efficiency and love of customer service to the firm.

    Danae is highly organised and prides herself on running an efficient office, however balances this with approachability and personality which makes the Smith Shearer office such a welcoming place.

    When Danae isn’t at the office, she enjoys going to the beach, swimming and road bike riding in the wonderful outdoors of Esperance.

    Robyn Winfield

    Client Services Assistant

    Robyn commenced at Smith Shearer in early 2014.

    Robyn is also a country girl, growing up in Beverley and finishing school in Narrogin.

    Her diverse career has taken her all over the state from Esperance to Karratha and various places in between.

    Her regional experience is important to her role, providing her with empathy and hands-on knowledge applicable to many of Smith Shearer’s clients.

    Robyn currently lives in Munglinup with her partner on his cattle farm; the various farm duties keeping her busy in her spare time.


  • Shannon_Lancaster

    Shannon Lancaster

    Receptionist

    Shannon joined the Smith Shearer Team in 2016 as the receptionist and marketing guru. Shannon has a Bachelor of Arts (Creative Arts) and prior to this role worked as a Copywriter. With experience in a role of administrative and customer service roles in the Accounting, Community Services, Real Estate and Hospitality fields, you'll recognise Shannon by her giant smile and bubbly personality. 

    Having moved to Esperance in 2015, Shannon is an avid writer and is making the most of the coastal surroundings and beach lifestyle by adopting an old-fashioned 'pen and notebook' approach to writing. 


  • Rhi

    Rhianne Winchester

    Receptionist

    Rhianne brings an array of customer service, organisational and administrative skills to Smith Shearer. As part-time receptionist on a job-share basis with Shannon, Rhianne's experience stems from the medical administration sector. An avid digital designer, Rhianne is currently studying graphic design.

    Having moved to Esperance in 2016, Rhianne commenced her role with Smith Shearer in mid-2017. In her spare time she can be found painting, designing and exploring the local arts scene.
