Helping the next generation of teenagers in Esperance to develop positive mental health and wellbeing is one of our aims when looking at how we can support the Esperance community. That’s why we are avid supporters of Adam Przytula’s Armed For Life social change enterprise, which helps students and adults develop resilience to overcome life’s challenges with ease.
Our engagement with the Esperance business community
Across the years we’ve had the opportunity to develop longstanding working relationships with many families across Esperance and surrounding areas. We’ve been there to experience the many joys and challenges as our clients start families and raise their children alongside our own.
As locals ourselves, we’re on the sidelines of footy matches, netball games and sports carnivals. We see each other at school assemblies, graduation ceremonies and - of course - at the supermarket or while getting a coffee at Coffee Cat.
We care deeply about the wellbeing of the children and youth as they grow-up in our seaside town. While we appreciate the closeness and support of our community, we also recognise the challenges faced by young people these days are significant, and can have long-term impacts.
Armed For Life and Smith Shearer partnership - supporting mental health and wellbeing in Esperance
At Smith Shearer, we’ve been following Adam’s journey for quite some time now, and so we were delighted when he visited Esperance for the first time in 2021.
When ‘The Road to Resilience’ was published by Wiley at the start of 2022, we contacted Adam to find out how we could get his book into schools in Esperance. Fast forward a few months and last week, a classroom set of Armed For Life’s ‘The Road to Resilience’, purchased by us for Esperance Senior High School, landed at our office. Leanne Cassam, Mental Health in Schools Project Coordinator, popped by the office to collect the set for use in the classroom.
More than just tax accountants in Esperance
We may be known as tax accountants in Esperance, but our values run much deeper than that. We’re committed to supporting the business community, their families and the Esperance community as a whole to thrive, as we recognise positive mental health plays a vital role in individual and community wellbeing.
Adam has shared that he’ll be visiting Esperance again later this year. We’re looking forward to his visit, and we know our teens are too. In the meantime, check out a guest post Adam wrote for us How to Build a Resilient Business.
